Introducing the presenters for New Professionals Day Ireland 2015


NPDI15On Saturday 7th of March in Maynooth University Library you will have an opportunity to meet and learn from David Hughes from Dublin Business School and Padraic Stack from Maynooth University and An Foras Feasa. David’s workshop will focus on Koha and Padraic’s will look at Omeka – two fantastic Open Source Software platforms for Information Professionals to utilise.

David’s first degree was in Molecular Biology, followed up by a Masters’ degree by research in Developmental Genetics. molecularChanging tack totally he then joined a company that produced content for electronic databases, originally starting as an indexer before become a trainer and then production & project manager.

David then moved to a UK Government agency as an Information Scientist and Analyst.  As well as cataloguing grey literature and editing abstract & Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) publications, David also measured & analysed research output to examine research trends in technological areas of interest to the UK Government.

ucd-sils-logo-medRealising that a qualification in librarianship would help his career development, David did a Masters’ in Library and Information Studies at UCD, where he completed his thesis on the quality of databases used by Library and Information Studies researchers.

David currently works as Systems Librarian at Dublin Business School.  David’s library interests include user experience, m6s6aicjogoampxnh1a9dzzq7k4g1nn$4o4fuq0etib83lc1re6n784c6yfbthblibrary technology and library analytics.

indexOur second workshop is from Padraic Stack who is the Digital Humanities Support Officer for Maynooth University, a role split between An Foras Feasa, the Institute for research in Irish historical and cultural traditions and the University Library.

Maynooth-University-with-loHe works in the broad areas of digitisation and digital curation and is currently engaged in a project to implement a digital library for Maynooth University.
